Dr. Papp Talks About Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a dangerous medical condition that causes your airway to become blocked. This leads to shallow breathing or cessations in breathing while you sleep, and prevent oxygen from reaching your brain and the rest of the body.
The troubling fact about sleep apnea is that many people who are affected, don’t even know it because they are asleep! If you have a bed partner who complains of your frequent snoring, you should get a sleep apnea screening.
Common Symptoms of Those Who Suffer From Sleep Apnea
- Frequent and/or loud snoring
- Daytime fatigue
- Waking up with a sore throat
- Restless sleep
Sleep apnea can affect more than just your night sleep, but also your relationship with others, your job performance and even your safety while driving. If untreated, you become more at risk for conditions linked to sleep apnea like heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and weight gain. Dr. Papp offers effective sleep apnea treatment depending on your needs.
Sleep Apnea Solutions
There are several options that might be right for your needs and lifestyle. The CPAP machine is the gold standard for sleep apnea treatment and is worn as a mask at night. The machine increases air pressure in your throat so your airway doesn’t collapse while you sleep. For those with bed partners or who sleep on their sides or stomach, a CPAP machine may not be the best option for them. We also offer oral appliances as a less obstructive treatment. These appliances sit in your mouth similarly to a mouth guard and hold your jaw forward so your airway is no longer blocked while sleeping.
Dr. Papp and our entire team have advanced training in diagnosing and treating sleep apnea through Nierman continuing education courses. This allows us to more accurately diagnose sleep apnea and prescribe the appropriate treatment. We want you to sleep soundly every night and wake up fully rested every morning. With over 17 years of experience, we are dedicated to your comfort and overall wellbeing.
